Our mission at Bike EXIF is to bring you a very selective daily dose of the best motorcycles, from the past and present. And we’re thankful to have the backing of sponsors who support this goal. So it’s time to give them a hat-tip. Please pay them a visit—because they like the same stuff that we do, and their support keeps the wheels turning on Bike EXIF.
Falcon Motorcycles has backed us from the beginning. They specialize in building one of a kind, post-war British motorcycles. That means custom vintage bikes, rebuilt entirely from the ground up—with nearly every part, every portion of the frame and engine remade, refurbished, customized and/or altered to create a wholly new motorcycle. Many original parts are sculpted and machined from raw blocks of metal: you can see the Norton backbone or Triumph engine still framing the machine, but the spirit is undeniably Falcon. Find out more on the Falcon Motorcycles blog, and check their Facebook page too.
Baxter of California is another company that cottoned onto Bike EXIF very quickly. They create cutting-edge men’s products that target specific skincare needs, giving guys intelligent solutions to anti-aging, shaving, cleansing and basic skincare. Baxter’s CEO, Jean-Pierre Mastey, has been a supporter of Bike EXIF from the start—and in his other role as an LA tastemaker, runs an eclectic and entertaining blog called Baxter Finley.
Totti Motori attracted our attention long before they became a sponsor. Roberto Totti has been making beautiful custom motorcycles since 1973, and his creations are worthy of a place in every bike enthusiast’s garage. Roberto is best known for his Triumph creations, but he’s also turned his hand to BMW, BSA, Ducati and Harley conversions. Check out his past and current builds here—it helps if you know a little Italian.
Zero Engineering are the founders of the Samurai chopper scene, and one of the few chopper builders that we respect. They created a style of their own, and have a huge following in the USA as well as Japan. If you haven’t got room in your garage for one of Zero’s exquisite bikes, there’s sure to be room on your wall for their new 2010 motorcycle calendar. Shot by Ben Schkade, it’s a cut above the usual cheesecake and available online for international shipping.
Compass Expeditions is the world leader in motorcycle tours of South America, Australia and Russia. They use carefully-selected ride leaders and support vehicle drivers, and have a real passion for both motorbikes and travel. Compass uses fully-kitted BMW GS series bikes, including the 800 and 1200 models, but you’re also welcome to take along your own motorcycle too. Check out their website for tour details—the next one is The Road of Bones, a ride from London to one of the most remote towns on earth, Magadan in Siberia.
Glory Sales and Service was founded in 1999 by Justin Kell. The LA-based showroom was originally conceived as an antiques store, but built its name on a strange mixture of 1950s home furnishings intertwined with vintage British and American motorcycles. On any given day you can buy a 1960s Triumph flat track racer, a set of 1930s salt and pepper shakers, and maybe even a stuffed boar’s head—along with more conventional items from the likes of Davida, Lewis Leathers and Barbour clothing. Follow their blog and become a fan on their Facebook page.
Deus Ex Machina is our most recent sponsor, and for Australian motorcycle enthusiasts, this company needs no introduction. It promotes and celebrates a custom motorcycle culture that first appeared in Europe and America in the 1940s, which has recently been revived by enthusiasts in Japan, America and Australia. The sale of motorcycles and parts is at the core of the business—from Yamaha SR400s and TW220s to Kawasaki W650s as well as classic bikes—but visitors to the Sydney-based showroom will also find hand-built fixed gear bicycles, books, art and Deus’ own-brand clothing and luggage for sale. Deus has a Facebook page and it’s also worth subscribing to their excellent newsletter, the Oily Rag.
We’d also like to thank Kriega, makers of exceptionally fine motorcycle luggage. I use a Kreiga US-20 myself, and can vouch for its superb design and detailing. You can see Kreiga’s products, including backpacks for motorcyclists, here.
