Lil’ Dog

The Cihak brothers' 70cc Honda chopper, "Lil' Dog"
By guest writer Diesel of Visual Gratification. This isn’t the usual sort of bike you see on this site. But please bear with us, because sometimes good things come in small packages. In the present world, small is the in-thing—from nano laptops to compact cell phones. Contrary to that, in the world of motorcycling, big is associated with being beautiful. Big sports bikes, bigger superbikes and even bigger cruisers. By now, after looking at the picture, you must have realized what I am taking about. Yes, it’s this beautifully done custom chopper, a genre dominated by big twin monsters displacing anything above a liter. Okay, so what is the big deal about this bike? Admit it is rather cute, but anyone can build it, right? I suspect your interest in this bike will grow when you know that this bike has been built by a pair of brothers who were aged 12 and 17. In 2008, 12-year-old Cody enlisted the help of his bigger brother to build this cutie and display it in the Rat’s Hole Custom Show during the 2008 Daytona Bike Week. The machine is as simple as simple can be: it’s a Honda engine displacing only 70cc from a single cylinder, which is air-cooled and carburetor fed. The frame, of course is a completely custom built one-off, and accessories and parts were supplied by Eagle Motorcycle Salvage from Florida. For his efforts, Cody took home a trophy in the 1-150cc class while Joey took the title in the 251-650cc class. Rest assured, the Cihak brothers have to be watched out for in the coming years. Kudos to these little dudes! It’s not exactly to my taste, but I do love small displacement bikes, and these guys have more balls & creativity than most people ever manage!
