Actually, I think blackout lighting around mountain trails would be a fun way to test your abilities. But then I am not one to believe any toy like this exceeds my needs or is something I really do not need. I only say that when I cannot get my hands on it.

If we can get out of the war in Afghanistan anytime soon, maybe there will be some of these bikes HDT bikes on the civilian market. I’m guessing the new Triumph Adventure bikes will be available before that happens.

I contacted HDT about the availability of the bike and they said:

“We hope to be able to offer these sometime in 2011 but do not have an exact release date … it is definitely something that HDT wants to release sooner [rather] than later.

“There is just much more involved than just offering it to the civilians when our main customer is the military, which I’m sure you can understand.”

If the apocalypse indeed were upon us, would it be better to have spent $18,500 on this bike, or would it be better to have spent that same amount of money, buy 5 KLRs and just keep fixing them if they break? The multi-fuel aspect is amazing. As crazy as it is, I’m curious to know what it means to be on the waiting list…
