Sportster Forty-Eight custom: The Bomb Runner

Bomb Runner: Rough Crafts' Sportster Forty-Eight
One of the most popular Harley customs on Bike EXIF came out of left field in 2010: the Rough Crafts “Iron Guerilla” built by Winston Yeh. It was a remarkable achievement, because the regulations around custom motorcycle building in Yeh’s native Taiwan are extremely restrictive. Yeh has now created a sequel bike, Bomb Runner, and here’s a first look at it.

It’s the second in a planned series of “Guerilla” bikes, which will have Rough Crafts’ signature blacked-out look and components, but different build styles. The base bike is a 2011-model Sportster Forty-Eight 1200, but this time it has a different silhouette, a higher rear shock and tail section, a lightly modified frame, and a more aggressive lean-forward look.

“We’ve tried to enhance every part of the bike,” says Yeh, “without making anything stand out too much. I believe that every part should add to the whole bike, instead of having some parts that pop out too much.”

Roland Sands Design Black Ops wheels and Performance Machine black controls add a lot to the look and quality feel of the Sportster Forty-Eight, but most of the components are Rough Crafts’ own hard parts. That includes the tank and fenders, the triple trees, the rocker and clutch covers, the wasp-like raised tail section and that amazing 2-into-1 exhaust system.

“It’s a mix of a bobber, a cafe racer, and a street fighter,” says Yeh. “An urban street machine for you to ride around town on.” If you want to add a flavor of this machine to your own Harley Sportster, get in touch with Rough Crafts via their Facebook page.
