Royal Enfield teams up with Rough Crafts to deliver a radical Shotgun 650 with a matching limited edition production model.
Continuing its fine tradition of working with the world's leading custom motorcycle builders, Royal Enfield has just partnered up with our man in Taiwan, Winston Yeh at Rough Crafts. Tasked with customizing a brand new Royal Enfield Shotgun 650, he's delivered a menacing sports cruiser with neo-futuristic underpinnings—simultaneously providing the brand with a template for their own limited edition model.
Winston is no stranger to Royal Enfield's modern 650 platform. Seven years ago, he transformed a Continental GT 650 into a sporty café racer dubbed 'Midas Royale.' That build married the Continental GT's retro appeal with Rough Crafts' signature sculpted bodywork, black finishes, and gold accents.
This time, Winston wanted to push the concept even further. “'Caliber Royale' is designed to be the bold sibling in the same golden bloodline,” he says. “It amplifies aggression with stretched proportions, a dustbin fairing, and sharper, more provocative lines.”
“But beneath the design statement lies a deliberate philosophy: pushing for the biggest visual and performance impact with minimal modification to the core structure. Smart, efficient engineering—only the slightest changes to the frame, yet the transformation is undeniable.”
Winston operates Rough Crafts as a collective, working with a trusted network of local craftspeople. The Shotgun 650 was in the capable hands of Faber Studio, CH Moto, JZO Crafts, Simon Fiber Craft, Rover Works Custom Paint, Churui Leather Custom, and 2 Abnormal Sides—a jewelry maker known for making Rough Crafts' handmade emblems.
Winston also tapped his regular parts suppliers to bump up the Shotgun 650's base spec, starting with the Swedish suspension giant, Öhlins. Blacked-out Öhlins FGRT 213 superbike forks sit up front, held in place by CNC-machined Rough Crafts yokes. Piggyback shocks from the company's Blackline range do duty out back.
True to his word, Winston didn't mess with the Shotgun 650's frame. But he did swap out the swingarm for a gorgeous billet aluminum unit, made to spec by 101 Factory and measuring 100 mm longer than stock.
Five-spoke carbon fiber wheels from BST are wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires. The brake calipers and discs are from Beringer, with custom disc carriers that perfectly match each wheel's spoke pattern.
Although the Shotgun's chassis survived the project, its bodywork wasn't so lucky. The Rough Crafts team fabricated all-new parts, starting with the dustbin-inspired front fairing. Sporting a scalloped design that's carried through to the bespoke fuel tank and tail section, the unit also protects the lower fork stanchions. Stacked KOSO LED headlights are housed on the left-hand side, sunk into housings that are molded into the bodywork with an organic vibe.
At the top of the fairing, a small windscreen protects the Royal Enfield's OEM dashboard. Look closely, and you'll notice that the lip at the top of it is echoed at the front of the fuel tank.
The rest of the bodywork is standard Rough Crafts fare, with deep edges and sharp lines that trace their way to the tip of the waspish tail piece. The finishes are as luxe as we've come to expect from Winston; glossy carbon fiber inlays are juxtaposed against matte black sections, with delicate gold leaf stripes adding contrast. It's finished off with a leather saddle that combines a diamond pattern with a traditional vertical stitch.
The cockpit features integrated clip-ons fitted with Beringer levers, new grips, and a brake protector and bar-end plugs from CNC Racing. KOSO x Rough Crafts three-in-one LEDs handle taillight duties out back, while an SC-Project S1 silencer on burly titanium two-into-one headers provides the soundtrack.
Like any Rough Crafts motorcycle, Caliber Royale balances elegance and aggression with ease. As unconventional as it is alluring, it's a worthy successor to the shop's last Royal Enfield 650 build. It also heralds another collaboration between Rough Crafts and Royal Enfield...
Inspired by this custom Shotgun 650, Royal Enfield has unveiled a limited edition Shotgun 650 that's dripping with Rough Crafts style. Limited to just 100 units worldwide, the curiously named Shotgun 650 x Rough Crafts Drop boasts a unique livery and a handful of well-judged touches.
Although it's still pretty much a stock Shotgun 650 under the hood, it's the details that make it special. It's finished in swathes of gloss and matte black, with gold leaf striping that mimics the design of Rough Crafts' custom Shotgun 650.
The seat features the same leather upholstery as Caliber Royale, the tank has matching hand-cast brass badges, and the fork lowers have been done in gold. Other highlights include black contrast-cut wheels and Rough Crafts graphics atop the tank.
Parked next to its fully customized big brother, the Shotgun 650 x Rough Crafts Drop is a far tamer proposition. But it's also a far more accessible one—and it's the best-looking factory Shotgun 650 money can buy.
